Any Auto Body specialists out there?

I have a problem with my girlfriends 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. About a year and a half ago she was backing up with her drivers door open (I know I know) and backed it into a tree limb tweaking the door. I did not shut properly since. Well her solution was to just slam it a little harder to get it to close (I know I know). Well fast forward to today and all of that slamming has cause the sheet metal around the latching mechanism to fatigue and break and know the latching mechanism is collapsed into the door causing the door to fail to close.

My solution to this is to go to a wrecking yard and pick up a door and replace the damaged one. I am not a welder so I could not fix the door that way. So my question is is there a trick to hang a door or is it pretty straight forward? I am a pretty good shade tree mechanic but have never messed with taking off and on car doors. So any advise would be appreciated.

    Thanks fellers.

It's pretty easy, at least on the Chevy's I did it on. Biggest problem might be your electrical connections but other than that just relieve gravity pressure from door and pop out the two hinge pins and that's basically it.

You would be better off taking the door to someone who can weld, it's an easy fix. Get duplicolor paint and mask off the door, it's in an area you won't notice just keep it small. That way the door is the same tint, each color has up to 5 or so variants, and you can't tell until you putnthe door on. Also you can line it up better. use a floor jack and some towels makes it a hell of alot easier.

also, slamming the door and since the door was reversed so far as to mess up the latch, i would have been looking at the hinges for cracks also.
I just bought an 88 Heep. the door hinges were broken at the welds on the drivers door. i just zapped them with my wirefeed and life is good now.

Do you guys have any suggestions on a welder or someone who could fix this on the cheap? I have a buddy but he lives other side of the pass.
