    On This Day in Firearms History

    I used to do this years ago and decided to bring it back, I wanted to start in on Jan 1st, but time got away from me.

    February 1st

    National Freedom Day

    in 1587, Queen Elizabeth I of England signs death warrant for Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots

    in 1861, American Civil War: Texas becomes the 7th state to secede from the United States.

    in 1862, Julia Howe publishes "Battle Hymn of Republic"

    in 1865, The 13th Amendment is officially ratified, even though his signature was unnecessary, less than 24hrs after its passage President Lincoln signed the Amendment, it is the only ratified Amendment to have been signed by a President.

    in 1906, The 1st federal penitentiary building completed in Leavenworth, Kansas

    in 1920, 1st commercial armored car introduced (St Paul Minn)

    in 1959, Texas Instruments requests patent of IC (Integrated Circuit)

    in 1968, Famous photo: Saigon police chief Nguyen Ngoc Loan executes a Viet Cong officer with a pistol shot to head

    in 1933, 2 days after becoming chancellor, Adolf Hitler dissolves Parliament

    in 1942, US auto factories switch from commercial to war production

    in 1943, German 6th Army surrenders at Stalingrad, turning point of WW II

    in 1974, The F-16 Fighting Falcon flies for the first time.


    In 2014, The Seattle Seahawks win Superbowl XLVIII (OK not firearm related, but still cool)
