Homeowner grabs rifle, chases off suspected burglars and disables getaway car with gunfire

Talking about the safe storage bill that made it out of committee today. I'd say today it was good that there was no safe storage law. A prime example of being ready and able to defend yourself in your home with a weapon that is not locked up in a safe.

    The Whatcom County Jail.
FERNDALE, Wash. — Masked men armed with a knife entered a Ferndale home and sprayed the homeowner in the face with pepper spray, but the victim was able to get to his rifle and chased the home invaders out, firing at their car as they sped away, authorities said Thursday.

    They were later arrested.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office said the incident began at about 11:10 a.m. on Tuesday in the 4000 block of Elder Road in Ferndale. A homeowner said the unknown suspects had knocked on and then opened his unlocked door and entered his home. The suspects were wearing masks and bandanas.

“One was armed with a knife and one had pepper spray,” the sheriff’s office said.

When the homeowner — a 19-year-old man — confronted the suspects, “one of them sprayed the victim in the face with the pepper spray. The victim … then armed himself with a rifle and displayed it at the suspects. The suspects ran out of the house chased by the homeowner.”

This is why I have always had large guard dogs.
When anyone knocks on the door, they get a good dose of "your about to die" from my dog,
I usually see them leaving the property in a hurry.
Except the Bible thumpers, they seem to think my Dobie won't rip their face off?
And it's also the reason I keep my doors locked and carry my side arm 24/7

There's still a chance he might. While I don't wish ill upon the homeowner, as I believe it was just his instincts getting the better of him, he needs to know that chasing after the car was a dumb move, especially after being hit in the face with pepper spray. Hopefully none of the shots fired landed somewhere it shouldn't have.

That's the beauty of the dog, bad guy doesn't make it to his car.
In fact, he'd be luck to get back to the front door.
If bad guy #2 wants to help his accomplice, hope he likes the taste of .45
And I'm not referring to malt liquor.

And there is your safe storage, right on your hip. I am beginning to carry at home more these days. I may just go 24/7 like you. I have guns around the house that I can get quickly but nothing is like having it on you.
