Does SHTF? or does the world slowly crumble?

judging from our own tent cities and the ongoing crisis in Venezuela, I'd say a slow inexorable fall into ruin is the current paradigm. This seems to have become the norm for our neighbors in SA:

Unless there is a devastating event that causes the entire system to fall, the down fall of society will be a slow spiral. Many believe that the spiral has already begun and has gain such force that it cannot be stopped. We may be seeing the crescendo to the good times with the fall to follow.

    1) Antifa becoming more bold and restricting free speech, reminiscent of the the Brown Shirts in the 30's
    2) Liberals giving everything away then when the they can no longer sustain the drain on society and the budget moving but continuing to vote int he same way that cause the problem and the reason that they moved, much like socialism.
    3) Government taxing all to the point you only have two sectors, the rich and the poor. This allows them to control the masses as they have become dependent on the government for support. The rich continue to benefit as they can provide the resources to keep it going and favoritism to maintain their positions.
    4) Increased homeless and drug abuse making people unable to climb out of the situation and become more dependent on government.

The list goes on and on.

Shtf every day for different people. Most of the time it's in boring ways though. Say you get laid off. That's def shtf for you. Or u get cancer or break an ankle. Can't work for months. Shtf. I think that's what we should focus our preps on, the "non-sexy" types of events that occur every day to people. Life insurance policy kind of shtf... That said... I got my Geiger dosage card and iodine tabs in my edc.

Totally agree. I would have be starving and/or homeless had I not spent time, effort and what little money available in storing food in the larder and savings many different times in the last decade. Still living on a knife's edge and one event could tip me over.

In addition to those iodine tabs, keep your thyroid saturated with good iodine for good measure.

If something as simple as an extended power outage (2+ weeks) over a large area happened shit would go off the rails. Freight would be slow to move from A to B, resources would be taxed, stores would have no food, and people-pets would be slowly starving. About 8 years ago we had a snow/ice storm here in the area that knocked lots of power out all over. My house sits at the top of 3 rather steep hills needed to travel up to get to, couple that with lots of trees and we were fucked.

We were out of power for almost eight days. The first two days people stayed around and tried to ride it out, but by the fourth day 50% of my neighborhood was gone. By the sixth day, only my neighbor and myself remained in my immediate area consisting of about 25-30 houses. People who aren't prepared went into straight panic mode. We rode it out, camped by the fireplace, mastered Monopoly, and played lot of hide the weiner.

If this would have been a long time or permanent occurrence and people fled, as much as I hate to say it.... I would be forced to go shopping at their places for shit they didn't take with them.
