    A "BIG" Thank You to my fellow Seattlegunners..we hit $1,000

    Update Nov 11th
    I figured that since today is "Veteran's Day", it would only be fitting to give this thread a yearly btt to show the new Seattlegunners what the SGN community is all about.

    Update as of Oct 17th @ 9:25am:
    Yippee, for editing out my "choked up part". ;)

    I was asked to mail-out a "thank you card" to everyone who participated in this event. Since I don't have your mailing address, I can either leave this thread up for future Seattlegunners to see/view or leave you "feedback" on behalf of Mr. Akira Tamura, or "pm" me your address and I'll mail you a thank you card.

    I want you all to know that Mr. Akira Tamura is very grateful for the $1000 that you gave him. I wish all of you got the opportunity to meet him in person.
    =====================================

    Update as of Oct 12th @ 7:00pm:
    Hopefully I don't look like a total ass on TV. I had to put your donations in an envelope instead of a shoebox. I was unaware that Mr. Akira Tamura is almost completely paralyzed. So it would be imposable for him to open a gift wrapped shoebox.
    When I handed him the envelope, he had no idea what it was or why I was meeting up with him.

    As I began to tell him why I was there...I looked at this man and it "hit me". This guy could be me 40 years from now...that's when I got all "choked up" and lost it...lucky I was still able to maintain my composure.

    He's an x-army soldier, living in an assisted/fixed housing complex. He was very grateful and told me that $1000 was way to much and he wanted to give it back. I told him that I am only one person and that this money came from people who wanted to say "Don't give up on people". There are still plenty of good people out there who are willing to lend a helping hand...especially for someone who served our country.

    He's a great guy and a far better interviewer than myself. Off-camera, Mr. Akira Tamura asked who were these people who donated their money. I told him about the web forum and he wanted to say thank you to all the Seattlegunners.

    Here's a picture of Mr. Akira Tamura and myself. The news clip will be on tonight either at 9pm or 10pm. I wanted to keep this "low key" but you know how the news media is.

    FYI, the suspect is still at large and the video is worthless so the chances of this guy being caught is very slim.

    I'm not sure if Seattleguns.net wants to "archive" this thread or not not...so I guess you (Mods) can delete it as you see fit.
    This really shows what kind of "community/family" SGN has. We help cleanup the shooting pits along I-90, gave a free handgun away to someone in need and we helped a "stranger" restore his faith in "Humanity". I wish you all could have seen the look in his eyes. He is a very soft-spoken man, with a very humble heart. He wanted to give back the $1000 because the scumbag who robbed him took $200...he just didn't feel right taking $1000.

    I told him it was the least we could do for him. Being helpless, lying practically half-naked on the bathroom floor is an experience he will never forget...and I'm sure receiving $1000 from total strangers is something he will cherish for the rest of his life.

    Update as of Oct 11th @ 6:25pm:
    I'm going to go ahead and cancel the following donations below.
    If you send in your donation, I'll shred it with my "cross-shredder" so you don't have to worry about your info falling into the wrong hands.
    Thanks again to everyone who donated. We raised $1000!! which is well over our $500 donation goal. tiphatt...
    =====================================

    Update as of Oct 4th @ 10:30am:
    We've reached our donation goal. Thank you!!
    I've been speaking with Michael over at KCPQ Channel 13 Fox News, and as soon as I give him the "go-ahead" he will arrange a meeting between Mr. Akira Tamura and myself. As per Robin Masters wishes.....this will be a low key event with no or very little media attention/coverage. If any fellow Seattlegunner(s) or Mod(s) would like to accompany me when I present Mr. Tamura with our donations, please feel free to contact me.

    My only request is:
    Please no SGN baseball caps
    No open carry firearms
    Dress to impress...You don't need a suit and a tie, but dress as if your going on a first date, church, or a nice restaurant.
    =====================================

    Update as of Oct 1st @ 6:55pm:
    As soon as I receive the majority of the donations I'll put a stop to all the donations. I don't want to prolong/drag this out for days on end. It would be nice to give your donation to Mr. Akira Tamura in a timely manner. So please mail your donation out tomorrow so we can wrap this up cheeringz
    Thanks again for all you Seattlegunners who opened your hearts to help this man out.
    Semper Fi
    =====================================

    Update as of Sept 24th @ 9:30am:
    I want all my fellow Seattlegunners to know that I WILL NOT disclose your donation amount to anyone. It will be kept private/confidential.
    ======================================

    Update as of Sept 23 @ 7:50pm:
    I'll collect all the checks/money orders/Walmart gift cards and put them in a "gift wrapped" shoebox and label it just like this:
    To: MR. AKIRA TAMURA
    Thank you For Your Service

    When he unwraps the shoebox and opens it, it will be full of our donations. Unless someone has a better idea or has any objections...???
    ======================================

    Update as of Sept 23 @ 11:50am:
    I contacted KCPQ Channel 13 Fox News, and everything is good-2-go.
    I'm wondering if we would like to go public with this? Wouldn't it be AWESOME if you see this on the news....

    LOCAL SEATTLE GUN FORUM DONATES $4,566 TO DISABLED VETERAN. (There are currently 4,566+ Seattlegunners..if we all made a $1 donation we could make this happen). So a small donation is far better than no donation. tiphatt

    With all the recent negativity of people with guns/shootings, this is would be a great "PR" (public relations) opportunity for seattleguns.net. So if any of the MODS want to take this thread over feel free.
    ============================================

    Update as of Sept 23 @ 11:15am:
    The collection of your donations will end today (October 11th).
    Don't let a scumbag, low-life steal the "trustworthiness" of a "Good Samaritan".
    Let's knock this out ASAP and show that "humanity" and "faith in good people" isn't lost.
    Show this veteran that we appreciate his service for keeping this great nation free and our families safe. yessir
    =======================================

    I'm not sure if this should be posted in "The Pit" or not, but this attack really pisses me off. I know there are a lot of scams out there of people asking for money, but I have an idea that I would like to present to my fellow Seattlegunners. The victim is an elderly disabled veteran who is confined to a wheelchair. He served our country to protect our way of life and to keep America free....and some low-life scumbag took his wallet, $200 and some Walmart gift cards. Let's start a collection and give this veteran at least $500.

    If we all pool $10 each, I'm sure we can get this done in no time at all. **I know times are tough**, so if you can only give $1 that's cool and if you want to donate more than $10...that's cool too. If you want to stay anonymous, or have your donated amount anonymous just let me know and I'll post it as you see fit.... Examples shown below:

    ============Example Only============

    Bulldog18, $10
    Bulldog18, amount undisclosed
    Bulldog18, Walmart gift card
    Anonymous, $1
    ===================================

    For security/accountability/theft purposes, DO NOT DONATE CASH. Mail me a check or money order made out to the victim. The victim's name is: AKIRA TAMURA.

    I'm not a fan of Walmart. So if you feel like purchasing any Walmart gift cards that's totally all up to you. FYI, a Walmart card will not pay for rent, medical bills, gas/bus pass...you get the idea.

    HEARTLESS CROOK: Elderly Disabled Man Robbed In Hospital Bathroom
    WMW Amy Allen
    September 22, 2010

    SEATTLE - Do you have the tip that can lead Seattle police to suspect that preyed on disabled veteran?

    Seattle Police are looking for a man they believe robbed a disabled man in a hospital bathroom. The incident happened at Virginia Mason Hospital on Thursday September 16th, just after Akira Tamura had finished a follow-up appointment at the hospital and headed for the bathroom.

    Tamura was struggling to maneuver his wheelchair in the bathroom when the suspect came over and offered to help. He told Tamura he had helped his mother who was in a wheelchair and knew what to do. "He seemed friendly and nice," Tamura explained.

    Tamura said the suspect pushed him next to the toilet and he stood up. "He pulled my pants down and I fell against the commode door," Tamura explained. He thought the man's actions seemed a little strange but figured the man was just trying to be helpful.

    Tamura asked the man to step away so he could go to the bathroom and the guy walked out and left the hospital. Moments later, Tamura realized the man he believed was a good Samaritan, wasn't. "He left, then I stood up and felt for my wallet," Tamura said. That's when he found his wallet was gone. The suspect got away with almost $200 and some Wal-Mart gift cards.

    The hospital is cooperating with police to try and catch the suspect. The suspect is an African-American man in his 20's. He has medium length dreadlocks that are tinted red. He was carrying a black duffel bag with a shoulder strap. If you can tell detectives who this guy is, please call 1-800-222-tips. Copyright © 2010, KCPQ-TV

    Do you have, or can you set up, a Paypal or Gunpal account for donations?

    I'm sorry, but for accountability and to protect my fellow Seattlegunners from fraudulent scams, I'm only accepting checks/money orders made out to Mr. Akira Tamura. This way, EVERYONE will know that the only person who will be able to endorse the check/money order is Mr. Akira Tamura. Hopefully you'll understand my concerns of why I chose not to collect cash donations.

    **You can always get a Walmart Gift Card instead of making a cash donation**

    I'm an honest guy, but unless you really know me, you have no idea if I would "pocket" the money or "skim" a few bucks every now and then. This is the only way of knowing that 100% of your donation will go to the victim and not some other dirt bag trying to make a few bucks on the side.
